Launch of National Strategy and Pathway of Care for Lipoedema at British Journal of Community Nursing /Lipoedema UK Conference – March 3rd 2016
Lipoedema UK are proud to have been involved in the organisation of the 3rd National Lymphoedema Conference this year in association with the British Journal of Community Nursing. The conference titled “Assuring holistic treatment and care” was held at America Square conference centre in London on the 3rd March and was very well attended by a variety of health care professionals including lymphoedema specialists and community nurses.
Lipoedema UK’s mission is to educate all UK doctors and healthcare professionals to recognise lipoedema in the early stages ensuring appropriate advice and quality care. It was therefore a pleasure to be asked to give a presentation on the differences between lipoedema and obesity. Read more…
Announcing a generous $1.5 million dollar gift for Lipoedema Research
The University of Arizona, Tucson, is pleased to announce that they have received a generous donation from Alumna Felicitie Daftaur, in order to aid the study of atypical fat tissue, including Lipoedema. Dr. Karen Herbst MD, PhD, is an internationally noted UA researcher and is an associate professor of medicine in the UA Division of Endocrinology. The gift will enable Dr. Herbst to expand her efforts to better understand, diagnose, and treat adipose tissue disorders (ATDs).

Royal College of GP’s have access to course on LIPOEDEMA
If you think you have lipoedema, but your GP has never heard of it, don’t despair. Lipoedema UK have sponsored a course which is now available to all UK GP’s and health care professionals FREE.
Tell your GP or health care professional to log on to www.elearning.rcgp.org.uk/lipoedema. By taking the course they will have the knowledge and skills to recognise and diagnose lipoedema. It will take them less than an hour to complete.
Doctors and health care professionals outside the UK, pay a small charge of £25 for the course. This course is endorsed by the Royal College of Nursing.
1st International Symposium on Lipoedema
New York, 17th & 18th April 2015
The 1st International Symposium on Lipoedema, held in New York on Friday 17th & Saturday 18th April 2015 brought together Prof Etelka Foldi from the Foldi Clinic in Germany, Dr Mark Smith and Dr Bill Ripicci of the Friedman Center for Lymphoedema Research & Treatment, NY, Dr Stanley Rockson of Stamford University, Dr Karen Hebst, many experts from the field of lipoedema & lymphoedema plus researchers from the US and Europe and premiered Catherine Seo’s wonderful video The Disease they call Fat.
Day 2 was split into 2 separate events: a Think Tank attended by medical experts and researchers and a Solutions Forum for patients and their supporters. Christine Wise, represented St George’s Hospital in the Think Tank and Sharie Fetzer of Lipoedema UK co-chaired the Solutions Forum. Nurse Consultant, Denise Wise gave a presentation on behalf of UK Allied Health Care Professionals on Bandaging, Compression, MLD and CDT.
