St Georges Hospital Trust, Wandsworth, London
St Georges Hospital’s Lymphoedema Clinic provides a service for people in Wandsworth, London with lymphoedema and chronic oedema of all types including adults and children. They also treat lipoedema, lipo-lymphoedema and related conditions. Patients are offered appropriate investigations and advice on treatment.
Georges Hospital,Tooting is a tertiary referral clinic, which only accepts referral letters from Hospital Consultants and cannot accept direct referrals from a patient’s GP (unless they reside in Wandsworth, London). The best route is to consult your local GP for advice on referrals in your area. Patients cannot self refer.
St. George’s Hospital do not have direct access to funding for liposuction. Funding requests for liposuction should be made by a patient’s GP to their own to CCG on an individual basis. This is a lengthy process and there is no guarantee that funding will be approved by the patient’s CCG.
Patients wishing to discuss liposuction will need to be assessed by Dr Kristiana Gordon or Professor Peter Mortimer (Lymphovascular Medicine Consultants) in the Lymphoedema Clinic at St George’s Hospital.
If a Consultant sees a patient privately, they can only refer into the service on a private basis; the patient cannot be offered an NHS appointment. The only exceptions to the above are:
1. GPs within Wandsworth PCT can refer directly into the service.
2. Non-private Lymphoedema Clinics can refer directly into the Service.
St Georges’ accepts referrals for all chronic oedemas, including lipoedema. Newly referred patients are offered appointments within the Government’s Waiting List initiative of 18 weeks and wait times average ten weeks from receipt of referral.
Posted Referrals should be addressed to: Dr Kristiana Gordon, Lymphoedema Department, Dermatology, St George’s Hospital, Blackshaw Road, London, SW17 0QT.

Ideally all patients with lipoedema should be referred to their local lymphoedema clinic where they can be assessed and treated with appropriate conservative treatments such as compression and given advice on diet, lifestyles and suitable exercises.
The British Lymphology Society hold a list of Lymphoedema Clinics but not all accept patients with lipoedema and all lymphoedema services can be a post-code lottery. A few lymphoedema clinics accept out of area patients for diagnosis and treatment. Lipoedema UK are currently compiling a list of clinics that accept referrals for lipoedema patients.
